Whale Alert has expanded its analytics platform with a new feature showing historical average buy prices for short- and long-term cryptocurrency holders.
The company said the data is available for nearly 100 assets and is calculated from billions of on-chain transactions.
For Bitcoin, the tool allows users to track the estimated average acquisition price of different holder groups over time, giving traders another way to study cost basis and market sentiment.
New Data Could Help Track Holder Profitability
Average buy price data can help show whether large groups of investors are sitting in profit or at a loss.
For example, if Bitcoin trades well above the average cost basis of long-term holders, that group may have less incentive to sell during normal volatility. If price falls below the cost basis of newer holders, selling pressure can become more relevant as recent buyers move into losses.

More updates from our data team! You can now see the historical average buy prices for short- and long-term holders as well. These averages are created for nearly 100 assets based on billions of on-chain transactions.

Whale Alert said the feature separates short- and long-term holders, which makes it easier to compare how different parts of the market are positioned.
The company has made the Bitcoin dashboard available through its analytics platform, with similar data covering dozens of other crypto assets.

What This Means for Bitcoin Traders
Overall, this data gives traders another way to judge where potential pressure points may appear.
If BTC trades below the average buy price of short-term holders, newer investors may be under more stress and more likely to sell into weakness.
If Bitcoin remains well above the long-term holder cost basis, that can show that older holders are still comfortably in profit.
The metric should not be used alone, but combined with the BTC price structure, exchange flows and holder behavior, it can give a clearer picture of whether the market is under pressure or still supported by profitable long-term investors.
