  • On-chain alerts put Binance-linked transfers at approximately $2.77 billion across five blockchains, but no confirmed theft has been established.
  • Ethereum wallets labeled Binance 14 and Binance 16 transferred assets to a newly created address, with a separate transaction subsequently moving about 195,460 ETH.
  • Reported stablecoin freezes could restrict the movement of affected tokens, while customers still need confirmation of withdrawal availability.

Approximately $2.77 billion in cryptocurrency reportedly moved from Binance-linked wallets across five blockchains on October 29, triggering concerns about a possible security breach at the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume.

The activity included substantial transfers from Ethereum wallets labeled Binance 14 and Binance 16 to a newly created address. Blockchain-monitoring reports also identified a possible Tornado Cash connection involving the transaction’s funding path, although that link has not established who controlled the receiving wallet.

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao sought to reassure customers, stating that user funds are safe despite the suspected security incident. Speaking as a shareholder rather than an executive, Zhao expressed confidence that the exchange would cover any potential losses

Binance 14 and Binance 16 Transfers Reveal a Concentrated Fund Movement

The Ethereum activity began at approximately 20:24 UTC, when the wallet identified as Binance 14 transferred a large collection of assets to a newly created destination.

Its publicly labeled address is:

  • 0x28C6c06298d514Db089934071355E5743bf21d60

The wallet can be inspected directly through Etherscan.

The reported transfer included approximately 167,464 ETH and $1.615 billion in USDT, alongside dozens of other tokens. Roughly 24 seconds later, Binance 16 reportedly transferred another 28,005 ETH to the same destination.

Within approximately 15 minutes, the recipient transferred about 195,460 ETH to another newly created wallet, leaving substantial token balances at the intermediate address.

The recipient has been reported with the abbreviated identifier 0x5227…CB2f8c. The shortened form is insufficient for independent address verification, so it should not be treated as a complete destination identifier.

A particularly unusual feature was the reported funding connection to Tornado Cash. Investigators described an initiating wallet that received small ETH deposits associated with the mixing protocol before the large transfers.

Such a funding pattern can justify closer examination, but it does not prove compromised private keys or unauthorized withdrawals. Blockchain records establish movements and contract interactions; identifying the person or institution authorizing them requires additional evidence.

The $2.77 Billion Estimate Is Not the Same as a Confirmed Loss

The reported figures cover different measurements, networks and stages of the fund movements.

Reported measure Amount What it establishes

Binance Security Report Breaking Down the Reported Fund Movements October 29, 2026 | Preliminary figures Reported Measure Amount What It Establishes Cross-chain transfer estimate $2.77B Reported movements across five blockchains Ethereum wallet movement ~$2.38B Assets associated with identified Ethereum transfer activity USDT and USDC freezes ~$1.79B Freezes attributed to Tether and Circle in CZ’s reported statement; issuer confirmation pending Bitcoin transfers 16,687 BTC Four exchange-labeled transfers with destination ownership unverified

These amounts cannot be added together. The cross-chain estimate may already include some Ethereum movements, while frozen balances may overlap with assets included in the transfer totals.

The stablecoin freeze figures also require separate verification. The screenshot attributed approximately $971 million in freezes to Tether and $823 million to Circle, but I could not establish corresponding issuer disclosures confirming those amounts or their connection to the Binance transfers.

Even a confirmed blacklist would not establish the recoverable value. Frozen tokens remain at their blockchain addresses until further authorized action occurs.

The financial exposure therefore depends on the ownership of the receiving wallets, which transfers were authorized, and whether any assets are permanently inaccessible to Binance.

BNB Underperforms as Traders Assess Exchange Risk

The wallet alerts emerged during an already weak cryptocurrency session. At the time of writing, according to CoinMarketCap, BNB declined 5.73%, compared with Bitcoin’s 2.02% fall. The 3.71-percentage-point gap indicates greater selling pressure in BNB, although the snapshot cannot isolate the impact of the security reports.

October 29, 2026 | Market Snapshot Crypto Prices During Binance Wallet Alerts Prices at the time of the supplied screenshot Asset Price 24h Change Bitcoin BTC $79,433.24 -2.02% Ethereum ETH $2,287.83 -2.80% BNB $712.06 -5.73% XRP $1.25 -5.07% Hyperliquid HYPE $93.73 +15.66% Tether USDT $0.9988 -0.02%

The broader selloff complicates attribution. XRP declined sharply, while Hyperliquid advanced, suggesting that investors were differentiating between assets rather than liquidating the entire market uniformly.

What Binance Customers Can Verify Now

As of the latest reporting reviewed, Binance had not publicly established whether the large transfers were unauthorized. A report published shortly after the movements said the exchange had not disclosed a withdrawal suspension or confirmed an impact on customer funds. That is not proof that withdrawals were functioning normally across all networks.

Customers concerned about their balances can take several practical steps:

  • Check official notices and withdrawal availability. Use the Binance Support Center and the withdrawal interface inside the exchange, rather than relying on social-media screenshots.
  • Verify pending transfers on-chain. For Ethereum withdrawals, use Etherscan. For Bitcoin, use mempool.space. A valid transaction hash helps distinguish a broadcast transaction from one still awaiting exchange processing.
  • Protect account credentials. Avoid unsolicited links offering emergency withdrawals, SAFU compensation or wallet migration. Do not disclose recovery phrases or approve unfamiliar wallet transactions.

Binance’s Proof of Reserves provides another reference point, but published snapshots cannot demonstrate the exchange’s real-time liquidity or establish whether a subsequent security incident has affected customer liabilities.

The next material development will be an official explanation of the wallet destinations, independently verifiable transaction records and confirmation of the exchange’s withdrawal operations.

Until those details are available, $2.77 billion is a reported movement estimate, not a verified Binance loss. The Ethereum transactions provide a concrete investigative trail, but the available evidence does not yet establish who authorized them or whether customer assets were compromised.
