Cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX is set to terminate the trading of XRP, ADA, ETH, and BTC futures contracts earlier than scheduled as it prepares for a complete platform shutdown by September 23. The move accelerates the closure of some trading options to August 10, nearly three weeks ahead of the initial timeline.
Why the Rush?
BitMEX’s accelerated delisting schedule is intimately connected to its final closure on September 23. The exchange has made provisions to settle contracts fairly by employing adjusted indexes based on time-weighted average prices from August 6. Users are urged to settle positions by the new delisting date or face auto-settlement at the specified rate.
What Should Users Expect?
From August 26, BitMEX will transition into a mode that only permits the closure of existing positions, prohibiting any new trading activity. The exchange will eventually shut down permanently on September 23, and any remaining balances in user accounts will incur a custody fee.
BitMEX enjoys a legacy as a pioneering exchange with high trading volumes due to its innovative financial products, although regulatory scrutiny and rising competition have impacted its market standing.
BitMEX will delist futures on XRP, ADA, ETH, and XBT three weeks ahead of its final closure, with settlements based on time-weighted average prices determined on Aug. 6.
Driven by new algorithms like the Time-Weighted Average Price (TWAP), traders can minimize volatility impacts, ensuring balanced settlements despite market fluctuations. TWAP is a notable method allowing smoother transitions during BitMEX’s operational wind-down.

BitMEX’s early delisting and eventual closure mark the end of an era for the crypto derivatives pioneer, while also highlighting the competitive and regulatory struggles within the cryptocurrency trading landscape.
