  • The proposed blockchain will operate alongside BSC and use BNB without issuing another native coin.
  • Targets include 200ms blocks and 20ms pre-confirmations, which do not guarantee final settlement.
  • An internal development network is running, while public testnet and mainnet access remain pending.

BNB Chain is developing a separate Layer 1 blockchain targeting faster trading, payments and other time-sensitive applications. Technical documentation updated October 22 outlines 200-millisecond blocks and approximately 20-millisecond transaction pre-confirmations. The proposed network will use BNB for gas and staking, without issuing another native coin. BNB Smart Chain will continue serving its existing ecosystem.

BNB Chain keeps BNB central to its proposed two-chain design

Currently called New L1, the project has no announced final name. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao highlighted its shared-token approach in a post on X.

The architecture overview describes a native bridge connecting the new blockchain with BSC. That bridge remains under development and is intended to carry BNB between the networks.

BNB Chain also proposes staking through StakeHub, which creates non-transferable govBNB at a one-to-one ratio. Delegating those governance units provides voting weight rather than a separately tradable native cryptocurrency.

The network supports existing Solidity contracts, although some Ethereum interfaces and transaction formats differ. Its Multi-Lane mechanism reserves capacity for selected transaction classes, helping prevent other activity from crowding out time-sensitive applications.

BNB Chain separates rapid confirmation from final settlement

The speed targets require an important distinction. A 20-millisecond pre-confirmation signals intended transaction inclusion, but does not guarantee successful execution or irreversible settlement.

According to the pre-confirmation documentation, these signals can be revoked before finalization. Applications handling irreversible actions must wait until execution results have been committed and finalized.

Separating transaction ordering from execution lets validators continue agreeing on blocks while processing proceeds independently. Faster ordering therefore does not establish that every application settles within the same interval.

BNB Chain currently runs the project as an internal development network with multiple validators. Public testing is reported as targeted for late 2026, followed by mainnet in early 2027; those remain development goals.

The official FAQ confirms that neither public launch has occurred and says network endpoints will be published when available. It also warns against using the current shielded pool with real funds: audits and dedicated trusted-setup work remain outstanding.
