Coinbase is undoing its own rebrand. The company plans to bring Base App back to the Coinbase Wallet name, a reversal that signals a sharper focus on one thing: letting users trade almost anything, across almost any network.

Coinbase plans to rebrand Base App back to Coinbase Wallet, Decrypt reported on September 10, 2026, citing an interview with the product’s head of product, Ryan Kass. For related coverage, see Bitcoin $72–73K: ETF Realized Price and Coinbase Premium.

The move winds back a change made in July 2025, when the wallet became Base App and leaned into trading, social networking, messaging, AI tools and creator monetization. For related coverage, see Mexican Musician, Family Reportedly Killed Over Bitcoin Wallet.

This is a product rename, not a corporate one. Coinbase the company and its exchange keep their names. Only the wallet app is affected. And key details, a precise rollout date, completion status and the full feature list, are not yet confirmed.

What the Coinbase Wallet rebrand changes

Kass said the restored name reflects access to assets across many blockchain networks, not just one. The old “Wallet” identity, in other words, fits the wider ambition better than “Base App” did.

The rebrand does not cut ties with Base. Kass said the wallet will keep distributing Base assets, communities and features even after the name changes, a point worth noting for users who came in through the Base ecosystem.

Coinbase has been down this naming road before, as our coverage of how Coinbase rebrands Base App back to Coinbase Wallet lays out. The July 2025 pivot to Base App emphasized social features that never landed as hoped.

How broader trading fits the rebrand

The headline strategy is scope. Kass framed the wallet as a place where users can trade a growing menu of assets, and said Coinbase wants the app to act as a test kitchen for new ideas.

“We don’t want to put limits on what people trade, and we see that our users are asking to trade all these sorts of assets,” Kass told Decrypt.

He pointed to concrete examples: Hyperliquid perpetuals, Solana support and tokenized stocks spread across multiple chains. That is the “broader trading” in practice, a stated direction rather than a fully live, universal feature set.

The perps piece is already moving. Coinbase began adding Hyperliquid perpetual futures to Base App across more than 290 markets, with leverage up to 50x depending on the asset, Decrypt reported on August 19, 2026.

More than 290

Decrypt reported on August 19, 2026 that Coinbase was adding Hyperliquid perpetual futures to Base App across more than 290 markets. That leverage is not for everyone. Coinbase said the perpetuals product was unavailable in the U.S., UK, Canada and other jurisdictions that restrict leveraged crypto derivatives. Broader trading, then, is not universally available.

Tokenized stocks fit a wider Coinbase push, echoed in its regulatory filing for leveraged stock trading and its proposed equity perpetual framework to the SEC and CFTC. The trading ambition spans crypto and equities alike.

What the rebrand means for wallet users

The sequence tells a story. Decrypt reported on July 15, 2026 that Jesse Pollak was handing Base App leadership back to Coinbase, staying focused on the Base blockchain itself.

Pollak acknowledged that the bet on social features and creator coins had missed, and stepped back from the app to concentrate on Base.

For existing users, the operational questions are still open. No confirmed migration steps, custody changes, fee adjustments or regional access rules have been published for the rebrand. Anyone relying on the app should verify official instructions before assuming continuity.

Kass also called Robinhood Chain “hot,” according to Decrypt, but that is his framing; no comparative volume or market-share data backs it up. Treat it as opinion, not scoreboard.

The bigger question hangs over the strategy itself: after burning a year on a social-first Base App, can Coinbase convince traders that “Wallet” now means everything, everywhere?
