Robinhood Makes Its First Corporate Bitcoin Purchase

Robinhood has placed $25 million worth of $BTC directly onto its corporate balance sheet, marking the trading platform's first foray into holding the asset as a company rather than simply as custodian for its users.

The purchase was confirmed by Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood's Senior Vice President and General Manager for Crypto and International, during an interview at the Token2049 event in Singapore on October 7.Kerbrat told The Block the purchase was intended to signal the company's commitment to the crypto sector, saying: "We care deeply about bitcoin and the ecosystem around it" and that the move was about "aligning our company and our vision with the crypto community."

Kerbrat acknowledged the $25 million figure represents a relatively small investment given Robinhood's size, noting the company carries a market capitalisation in the $100 billion range and that the position is "not going to change a lot of the current trajectory of the company." The allocation is a statement of intent more than a financial pivot, but it places Robinhood alongside a growing list of publicly traded companies that hold Bitcoin on their books.

It is worth noting that this corporate purchase is separate from the nearly $25 billion in customer-owned crypto assets that Robinhood holds in custody wallets for users. Those funds are spread across around 1.7 million addresses on 12 different blockchains, and while Robinhood holds the keys, the coins are owned by its users.

Perpetual Futures Next in Line for US Users

The Bitcoin purchase arrives alongside a broader product expansion. Robinhood unveiled plans to bring perpetual futures trading on eight cryptocurrencies directly into its app at the HOOD Summit 2026 event in Houston on September 29, with eligible US customers set to trade perpetual contracts on Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Cardano, Chainlink, and Hyperliquid through Robinhood Derivatives and crypto exchange Bitstamp.

Positions will carry up to 10x leverage on Bitcoin and Ethereum, and 3x on the other six assets, with no expiration dates.Robinhood said it will charge one basis point, or 0.01%, per trade through the end of the year, which it described as among the lowest fees in the industry. The company's statement speaks of the coming months and names no specific launch date.

The product extends a line Robinhood first opened in Europe, where it launched perpetual futures for EU customers in mid-2025 at 3x leverage. Bringing the product to US retail investors through a CFTC-registered structure represents a meaningful step for the domestic derivatives market, where this type of contract has historically been available only through offshore venues.
