Germany’s Sparkassen banking network has commenced offering its customers the ability to trade cryptocurrencies through their existing mobile banking applications. With this development, clients can now trade XRP, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon directly, eliminating the need to set up separate accounts with cryptocurrency exchanges.

Phased Rollout for Access

This initiative, which kicked off on October 19, marks a significant expansion of cryptocurrency access through traditional banking channels. Not all customers can access this service immediately; the regional savings banks within the Sparkassen structure will activate the system according to their own schedules. Consequently, some clients will have immediate access to trade XRP and other supported assets, while others might experience delays as the service is gradually implemented.

Sparkassen clients can now buy and sell XRP, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon via their banking apps.

DekaBank and Börse Stuttgart Partner for Infrastructure

The trading infrastructure will be provided by DekaBank, with Börse Stuttgart’s custody unit responsible for the safekeeping of the digital assets. This collaboration ensures that the buying, selling, and storage processes are supported by two established entities within the traditional financial sector.

DekaBank is renowned in Germany for its corporate finance and asset management expertise, whereas Börse Stuttgart stands as a prominent operator in the financial markets, also extending services for digital asset custody.

DekaBank will provide the trading infrastructure while custody services will be managed by Börse Stuttgart’s dedicated unit.

XRP Surges into Traditional European Banking Channels

With this launch, XRP joins Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon as part of the suite of cryptocurrencies available within the traditional European banking framework. This integration represents a crucial milestone for making cryptocurrency accessible to individual banking clients.

Nevertheless, the service’s reach remains temporarily restricted. The phased rollout strategy means that the speed of nationwide service availability largely hinges on decisions made by regional banks, indicating that the launch is not yet a broad-scale access deployment.

This move comes at a time when prominent financial institutions across Europe are increasingly embracing digital assets, distinguished by providing direct access through banking apps. Eliminating the need for additional account creation is one of the standout aspects of this development.
