@WalletConnect has added support for the @StellarOrg blockchain and is launching WalletConnect Pay for merchants in Bermuda, in partnership with Penrose Partners. The move links Stellar-based applications to WalletConnect's network of 900 million end-users and more than 700 wallets, and supports Bermuda's goal of becoming the world's first fully on-chain nation-state.

Point-of-Sale Payments and Custody Partners

According to the announcement, point-of-sale payments are live through the @lobstr wallet, with custody services provided by @FireblocksHQ and @utila_io. WalletConnect's developer documentation lists Stellar among the chains supported by its Wallet SDK, alongside EVM networks, Solana, Bitcoin, Sui, TON and Tron.

The first named merchant is Premier Tickets (PTIX), a Bermuda-based ticketing platform. Per an announcement shared with CoinDesk, PTIX payments are expected to go live in the second quarter of 2027. Under the planned set-up, customer payments would move directly from their wallets to event organisers' wallets, with funds arriving within seconds, so the ticketing platform would not hold the money.

One caveat: a separate report notes that the plan does not specify which digital assets or blockchain PTIX will use, and WalletConnect Pay also supports USDT on TRON. The Stellar link to Bermuda's wider programme is nonetheless clear, since the island chose Stellar in May 2026 as its payment settlement rail.

Why Bermuda Is Moving Payments On-Chain

Bermuda's on-chain push was set out in January 2026 at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The Government of Bermuda said it plans to become the world's first fully on-chain national economy with support from Circle and Coinbase. The plan builds on the island's 2018 Digital Asset Business Act, one of the earliest comprehensive digital asset frameworks.

Cost is a central motive. Local merchants currently pay about 3% to 5% in card transaction fees, with effective processing costs reaching as high as 10% in some categories, according to a report on the Stellar Development Foundation's partnership with the government. Officials say digital payments could cut those costs and keep more transaction value within the local economy.

Bermuda's economy is not yet fully on-chain. The programme is still in a phased rollout, and WalletConnect Pay adds a checkout layer on the settlement network the government has selected.
